We’ve all been there — your quilt top looks great until those corners start misbehaving! Don’t worry, it’s part of the process. Here are a few tips to help you get those crisp, clean joins every time.
1. Press, Don’t Iron
It sounds small, but it matters. Press your seams (lift and press) instead of dragging the iron. It helps keep your fabric straight and prevents stretching.
2. Trim as You Go
After finishing each block, trim the edges so everything stays square. It makes assembly so much easier later — no surprises when it’s time to join rows.
3. Use Pins (or Clips!) Wisely
Line up seams carefully and pin right through the intersection points. If you’re using clips, make sure they’re snug but not pulling your fabric.
4. Slow Down at the Seams
When you reach a corner or intersection, go slow. It’s tempting to speed up, but precision beats speed every time.
5. Celebrate the “Almost Perfect”
Even if a few corners don’t match exactly — it’s okay! Quilting is handmade art, not factory work. A little imperfection gives your quilt personality.
